Freo centurion ready for success

A 'proud and privileged' Darcy Tucker will score his 100th AFL game against Geelong on Saturday

After joining Fremantle in 2016, Darcy Tucker is ready to go to the next level with Fremantle as the midfielder reflects on his career to date ahead of his 100-game milestone match against Geelong.

The 25-year-old has been a regular part of Fremantle's line-up since joining the club in late 2015 but has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

Looking back at the ups and downs of his AFL journey thus far, Tucker plans to be part of the group that could land Fremantle their first premiership.

  • "When I have 100 games, I'm just really proud of it," Tucker said.

  • “There have been a lot of ups and downs during the journey, with injuries of course.

  • "It was also a difficult road for us as a football club, when I first came here we had that rebuilding and it's been a long time since we've had success.

  • “We are now reaping the benefits and it is a very special group to be a part of. I am very excited about the future of this football club and where we can take it from here.

  • "Everyone is working hard every day and driving each other every day to try to win the first premiership for this football club."

The product from Horsham in regional Victoria was taken by Fremantle with pick 27 in the 2015 draft and has played in multiple roles since his time with the Club.

The big midfielder looked set for a breakthrough year in 2020 before a season-ending hamstring injury in round eight sidelined Tucker.

He played 16 games last season, playing every game since his return to the line-up in round seven, and has played all but one of the games this year (unused against Essendon as a medical sub).

Tucker said he has always felt loyal to Fremantle and hopes there are many more purple games ahead of him.

  • "I never really thought about going anywhere else, of course, when you first get there it's hard to be away from family and friends and WA is far from home," Tucker said.

  • “The Club has been very welcoming ever since and we've had a good group of guys since I've been here.

  • “I'm a very loyal guy, and I don't think it was ever a thought to go anywhere else.

  • “I feel that the group we have now is very special and capable of achieving great things.

  • "I am thrilled to be here and very privileged and proud to play 100 games with this group and hopefully many more to come."

Tucker will share the milestone on Saturday with goal sniper Lachie Schultz, who will also be bringing up his 50th game for Fremantle against the Cats.

  • "Shoota' is probably one of my best friends at the Club, so I should get to share the milestone with him," Tucker said.

  • "He's done a great job getting to 50 games, and there's a lot more to come for him.

  • "Everyone sees what he brings to our football club with his desire and his pressure and he is also rewarded with goals.

  • "Not only do I like to play with 'Shoota', but the whole football club does and I think he will be very good in the coming years. I am very proud."
